Brites de Almeida, the Baker of Aljubarrota, was a legendary Portuguese figure and heroine, whose name is associated with the victory of the Portuguese, against the Castilian forces, in the battle of Aljubarrota (1385). With his baker's shovel, he would have killed seven Castilians he had found hiding in an oven.

After the Castilians were defeated, seven of them fled the battlefield to take shelter in the vicinity. They found shelter in Brites' house, which was empty because Brites had left to help in the skirmishes that were taking place.

When Brites returned, having found the door closed, he soon suspected the presence of enemies and went into an uproar looking for Castilians. He would have found the seven men inside his oven, hiding. Summoning them to go out and surrender, and seeing that they did not answer because they pretended to sleep or did not understand, he struck them with his shovel, killing them.
