RV rental in Edinburgh

RV rental in Edinburgh is growing in popularity as it’s a great way to explore the surrounding area and beyond, as well as a viable means of making the most of a visit to the Scottish capital. Finding an RV to rent from a private owner should not prove difficult in Edinburgh, as there are numerous motorhome owners in the vicinity of the city. Some of the best advantages of motorhome rental can be realised through renting via Goboony, as you will be hiring from a local owner who should be able to give you the inside tips on where to go and how best to get there in their vehicle. Furthermore, hiring from an owner on Goboony comes with a cost advantage, as vehicles are often hired out at a more affordable rate.

More than 441,500 travellers were ahead of you

We had an excellent experience with this motorhome from start to finish. Over 5 days we covered around 1,500 miles, and I can honestly say driving the Kub was an absolute pleasure. It was incredibly easy to handle and made long journeys feel effortless. The motorhome came fully stocked with everything we needed, including all the kitchen utensils, which made life on the road really convenient. It truly felt like a home away from home. Owen, who owns and rents out the motorhome, was fantastic. He was friendly, approachable, and always easy to get hold of whenever we had a question. He even sent helpful videos to guide us through anything we needed, which made the whole experience stress-free. The sleeping setup was one of the real highlights. The over-cab bed was extremely easy to unfold and felt very secure and spacious. It comfortably sleeps two adults — I’m 6ft and had plenty of room to stretch out, which isn’t always the case in motorhomes. The mattress was supportive and made for a great night’s sleep after long days on the road. The rear double bed was equally impressive — very comfortable and perfect for a proper rest. My children absolutely loved it and slept brilliantly every night. Both sleeping areas felt well designed, cosy without being cramped, and worked perfectly for a family setup. Storage space throughout the motorhome was excellent. There was plenty of room for all our luggage, food, and day-to-day essentials without it ever feeling cluttered. The overhead cupboards, under-seat storage, and rear areas were really practical and easy to access, which made staying organised on a longer trip simple and stress-free. Considering the size of the vehicle, it was relatively economical on diesel, which was another big plus over such a long trip. Overall, I have zero complaints — everything was smooth, easy, and exactly as described. I would highly recommend both renting through Goboony and booking with Owen. We wouldn’t hesitate to do it again!

Billy is a super laid back dude, handover both ways went very smooth and stressless. We went full-on with Big Bertha, starting in Edinburgh, Ben Lamond, Three Sisters(we wanted to go to Loch Etive through "skyfall road", but Scottish single-file roads scared us in the beginning, so we cut that out of our plan). Then we moved towards Skye and stayed there for about three days visiting Sligachan Waterfalls, Old Man of Storr, The Quiraing, Fairy Glen, Coral Beach, Neist Point and Talisker. When we returned to mainland, the road took us north, all the way to Dunnet Head. On our 3-day long way back to Edinburgh we saw Peedie Sands, Duncansby Stacks, Castle Sinclair, Chanonry Point, Clava Cairns, Cairgorm Mountain, Loch Rannoch and finally The Hermitage. We spent last night in Silverdyke campervan parking in lovely coastal village of Cellardyke. As for the motorhome itself - we had some problems with leisure battery not charging during driving, so initially we didn't use hot water etc, but we were in constant contact with Billy and he went above and beyond to try and fix the issue by arranging mobile mechanic(Robert - Crofts and Lochs engineering, brilliang guy) TWICE! Somewhere in the middle of our trip Billy got us a brand new battery and with recent fixes we finally had everything we could dream of in a motorhome - Lights, hot water, all of it. We never stayed in one place for more than 1 night and we were mostly off-grid so overall I think Big Bertha did alright. Plenty of space for 3 people, quite good condition, drives ok without unpleasant surprises:)

Why rent an RV in Edinburgh?

Scotland is a beautiful place to visit both in terms of its urban areas and of course its rural splendour. Edinburgh is arguably the easiest city to get to in Scotland for anyone coming from out of the country. Given this optimal situation for transport, it’s an ideal place to rent a campervan or motorhome for your adventure, as the logistics of arriving, collecting the vehicle and dropping it off before departing are made a lot easier when done via Edinburgh. And why should you travel with an RV? Freedom! Go wherever, whenever, and cut these ties to schedules and hotel bookings. This will allow you to truly relax and enjoy the journey, not just the destination.

What are things to do in Edinburgh?

If you are there in the summer there is of course the Fringe festival which is a must see! If you are visiting during Fringe be sure to book your campsite in Edinburgh in advance to make sure you do have a spot. Without Fringe, Edinburgh is still sure to keep you entertained. You can stroll through the winding streets of the old town to the brooding Edinburgh Castle, the historical home to Scottish monarchs. Try to visit the castle during one of the reenactment events to see the history truly come to life. Or you could always catch a show at one of the city’s premier theatres?

What are things to consider when driving an RV in Edinburgh?

The city can be quite busy, especially in a larger vehicle and during the peak holiday season in summer. Furthermore, there has been a recent law in the city that adds a tourist tax if you are visiting the city which won’t affect you if you are camping near the city but might if you do so within the city limits. Finally, as is the case in many parts of Scotland, overnight parking is permitted unless stated otherwise. This is not the same as being able to stay in the vehicle overnight which you will need to check for a given area.

What is the closest airport to Edinburgh?

Edinburgh Airport is actually within the city, in an area known as Ingliston, which you can reach from all major European cities. Some of the vehicles on Goboony offer collection from the airport so be sure to ask about that when making a booking request from a local owner.
