No booking on Goboony can happen without hire insurance. This ensures that you're always covered on the road in case of any damages or incidents. We would never want your holiday to be impacted by a small mishap! On each listing, you'll see a section called 'Insurances', which mentions which insurance the owner has selected for their vehicle.
Different insurance types
1. Goboony Day Insurance
The vehicle is covered by our own insurance option. As a hirer, you must be at least 25 years old and have held a full driving license for at least 3 years with no more than 6 points. Goboony insurance covers UK and EU travel. If you intend to leave the UK, it is important to select your chosen destination at the beginning of the booking request to ensure sufficient insurance coverage is applied for your trip.
2. Annual Policy
Some vehicles are not eligible for Goboony Day Insurance, or the owner has elected for a different option. If they hold an annual policy, they will require a copy of your driver's license with 2 proofs of address dated within the last 3 months. Potentially, they'll ask for a DVLA share code as well.
3. External Insurance
This will require you to obtain your own insurance for the trip, for example, with DayInsure. This will always be mentioned on the listing. You'll need to display proof of cover within 72 hours of the booking start date.
If the booking is confirmed within 72 hours, proof of coverage must be provided on the same day as booking.
With any of the insurance options, you'll be able to contact the insurance or breakdown cover in case of incidents. Your security deposit can vary between £500 - £1,500 and is stated on the listing.
You can also enquire with the owner if you have questions about their insurance requirements.
What is Excess Reduction Insurance?
Alongside the hire insurance, you have the choice to add excess reduction to your booking. This does not replace insurance but rather lowers your deposit, and with it, how much you'd be required to pay for damages.
For a small fee per day, you lower the security deposit to £150.
In the case of damage, the excess reduction policy will cover the difference between the original security deposit and the £150 you paid. In all cases, the £150 deposit is per incident. If you happen to cause 2 damages, you are liable for 2 times the £150 deposit.
Rental Cover will only cover damages to the vehicle made by yourself and not third-party claims, cleaning, or fuel and mileage fees.
For example:
- On the first day of your trip, you accidentally hit a pole and dent the bumper. This will cost £700.
- On the third day of your trip, a stone gets knocked onto the window and cracks it. Unfortunately, the crack is too large, and the window needs to be replaced. This will cost £500.
Without Excess Reduction, you would need to pay your entire £1,000 deposit. But with Excess Reduction, you'd owe up to £150 per damage, so £300 in total.
Excess Reduction can be added when confirming your booking, or any time before your booking starts.
