Other than the much vaulted Crimean War nurse and the animated owner of Doogal from a somewhat dubious children’s TV series, my life has not been particularly resplendent in Florences. Yet, this 1969 vintage “Florence the T2 VW” spent a week utterly charming me with her unpretentious desire to put the fun back into both driving and camping. Just getting behind the oversized steering wheel made me smile and her magnificent air cooled engine drove as impressively as it sounded, although, to be fair, you won’t be beating any beamers in a drag race! The entire experience of this hire was outstanding. Nick, her fortunate owner, is very easy to deal with and helpful beyond belief. The handover was comprehensive and informative and everything you could need was provided in the van. She converts easily once at the campsite and is comfortable and roomy. Beyond all this Florence is a total flirt and everywhere I stopped someone chatted to me about her. I felt she had a certain style which newer campers lack, yet she really was no compromise in practical terms and a real bundle of fun to holiday with. August 2025
