Explore the magic of Scotland with McHaggis... Our trusty toy-box on wheels for "Outdoor Boys", style adventures with the kids.
Having owned two, six birth motor-homes and travelled extensively in Scotland we wanted a van for:
- ADVENTURES - Getting back to nature with fires, whittling sticks & marshmallows.
- STEALTH - Discreet camping by design
- EASY - To drive, park, LEZ compliant, seating 5 securely.
- WARM & COSY - Heating, heavy insulation, blackouts and a deep memory foam mattress
- GARAGE - Secure the toys (I kitesurf, snowkite, foil and wing-foil - If you are qualified, I can help with gear :-) and local spots
With these needs in mind, me and my three teenage boys lovingly created our dream adventure bus... McHaggis was born.
The thing that makes me smile most about McHaggis (ex National Rail Welfare van) is the onboard electric water boiler which is activated by the quick flick of a switch even whilst driving. Easy pit stops like you can never imagine... TEA/COFFEE Anyone?
OUR MISSION -To facilitate your BEST ADVENTURES and capture memories to last a lifetime.
- Imagine passing a Loch on a calm, low wind day, pulling out the SUP's or bikes and exploring... or,
- lighting fires with a Bear Grylls striker and everything you need for delicious marshmallows and sunset BBQ's.
The rear bed is massive, great for lazing/lounging. Comfortably sleeps 2 adults and 2 medium sized ones. We use an airbed on the floor to sleep our 5th or if staying longer pop up the inflatable tent.
The van comes with a potty loo for emergencies, we generally use cafes, sports centres and campsites as needed for showering. The van has a hot water and bowl housed in the rear van doors. Spot the photo of the rear doors and blue bowl.
Has a fridge freezer, cooker, microwave, gas single stove, electrics, USB and if desired Gas BBQ. The sound system is pretty good and the van comes with a boom box. The van has a the high.
The van is 5.4M long meaning it's easy to park in a regular car parking space and has exterior LED lights on all sides plus a reversing camera which makes things easier still.
It drives like a car, has cruise control and averages circa 35mpg. It is perfect for the narrow S500 roads and does not stick out like a tourists sore thumb.
This size/combo is perfect for the Highland and Island ferries which are tremendous value/low cost and well worth using. You will see some of the most pristine, white sand beaches using Calmac and I would strongly recommend an 'island hoping' pass.
If you are short on time a trip from Wyemss to Bute via Calmac is well worth visiting. Easy overnight, wild camping at Ettrick Bay a joy with the cafe nearby.
Add ons... Optional cost items as desired:
- 4 Man inflatable tent,
- 2 boogie boards, wetsuits, life jackets,
- Stand Up Paddle Boards,
- Bikes,
- Surfboard.
- Kites and wings
We are located in the fabulous, West End of Glasgow. Turn left onto Great Western Road and it's 30 mins drive to Loch Lomond, Duck Bay.
- Arrive by train or plane to Glasgow and jump in a cab/Uber to ours.
- We will get you away as soon as we can, often before 3pm if we can.
- Glasgow is a wonderful city and well worth exploring. Definitely recommend you add a day/night here.
- We have free on street parking over the road. At a small extra cost we can park you in our garage.
