Bessie is our well-loved, well-travelled family campervan. We have certainly enjoyed our time in her over the years and hope that you will enjoy your travels as much as we do. Starting at our base in Bristol, you can chose to head south to the beautiful Devon or Cornish coasts or west into Wales to explore the wonderful coastline there or further afield if the desire takes you!
Bessie is a German imported, Left Hand Drive VW, she is beautiful...

Such a cool little camper

Matt and Emma were very efficient in their correspondence and everything ran smoothly. Matt takes you around the quirks of the camper (it is over 40 years old) in detail. If you are not used to driving a left hand drive it might take some getting used to especially the gears, but that all adds to the adventure you'll have in Bessie. It has a more powerful engine than a normal camper so motorway and overtaking is not a problem. It can sleep four and the way the top opens to create the second double bed is really simple. We went to Goodwood Revival in it and was a much better choice than a tent. Bessie will put a smile on your face.

Matthew and Emma were excellent 'hosts' , responded promptly and were helpful and communicative.
We very much enjoyed our stay and trip with Bessie. The double bed was much more comfortable than I had expected and we slept well. It was great that there were phone charger points from the leisure battery and the sound system was excellent too and we were able to use bluetooth for Spotify.
The camper was simple to use and the roof folds up and down easily. Driving takes a little getting used to as finding second gear can be hit and miss..but to me that's part of the fun and adventure of driving a vintage vehicle, getting to know it's quirks.
We would highly recommend hiring Bessie.

What a brilliant weekend in what can only be described as a cool retro VW!
Matt and Emma were so helpful throughout. The induction was invaluable in showing us all we needed to know. Lots of great equipment for a camping trip: inside and outside stove, gas heater, cutlery, blankets, etc.
Having never been in a campervan before we now have the bug!

My fiancé and I took Bessie to this year’s Glastonbury Festival and the experience was just great. The camper is beautifully well maintained and its hosts were lovely and more than accommodating; can’t begin to express how good a working hob and kettle was on a Glasto hangover - thanks for the teabags - and the leisure battery and gas means you can charge your gadgets, chill to music and enjoy any home comforts entirely ‘off grid’. Driving the van is a pleasure, though as with any unfamiliar vehicle it took me the first couple of corners to get used to the gears! Thankfully, again, Bessie’s owners clearly went through everything I could need to know in regards to smoothly controlling the old gal before I set off. The engine is powerful enough to not leave you dawdling like a tractor, the left-hand drive is really no different to the standard UK style, and you get the added bonus of just driving an awesome piece of history. So yeah, can’t recommend it enough - we’ve rented massive modern ‘About Schmidt’ style motor homes in the past for triple the price and would never do it again after this. Go on, do something cool with your summer.

Loved Bessie, had a fantastic weekend on the Gower.
Matt and Emma were great, comms, hand over and flexibility we 1st class. Every detail of this 40-year-old van was explained, and was packed with everything we needed including tent shed :)
Highly recommended if you're looking to experience the campervan vibe, talk to people you don't know and wave at fellow VW campervans drivers.
