Selma is a 1986 army ambulance, carefully converted by ourselves into a camper for 1 to 4 people. She spent most of her life safe and dry in the Dutch Army depot. So she hasn't clocked up many miles yet. You are driving a well-preserved classic. Selma is our lockdown baby: converting her was our main occupation during the 2021 lockdown.
So Selma is not a factory-built camper, but a cozy, atmospheric little house on wheels. For us, that is a big advantage. Another advantage: We are nerds and maintain her really well.
You can count on everything being fresh and in order.
Selma is a Mercedes 508D, originally built by Mercedes on behalf of the army. These vehicles are robust and their engines are virtually indestructible. If you take good care of an MB508D, it is a friend for life. So with Selma, you can drive into adventure with peace of mind.
She is the sturdiest travel companion you can find.
Our camper is equipped for wild camping and off-the-grid living.
We built it in such a way that you don't necessarily have to drive from campsite to campsite.
There is room to linger wherever you want along the way. B
FACILITIES
a solar panel on the roof (175W) connected to a 200 Ah battery.
(The battery charges from the sun and while driving. This means you are free from campsites.)
a 220V inverter for laptops, household appliances, ...
top case with tables, chairs, an outdoor rug and BBQ
Bike carrier for 2 bikes (max 35 kg)
a roof rack with space for surfboards, canoe ...
a water and waste water tank, both of 40 liters
a portable toilet (port-a-potti)
a modest camping shower/solar shower (Quechua with water pressure system)
a new, spacious refrigerator with a freezer compartment
extensive storage space in the van, so you can organize yourself well
Good food is at least 50% of the fun of camping. Selma's kitchen is spacious, complete with all the necessary—solid—kitchen equipment and a well-stocked spice cupboard.
Eberspacher parking heater
The bodywork received maintenance and a paint job last year.
The photos where you see her with a red line are the most recent.
TO RIDE
Selma has four permitted seats,
> 2 seats in the front,
> rear passenger bench (no seatbelts, like in a school bus)
TO SLEEP
1 double bed,
1 hammock in the cockpit (cozy up to 1.70m)
1 sleeping mat for the aisle
As a family car, she is perfect, but unfortunately, Selma is too cramped for four adults.
IMPORTANT
Your grandma's white plastic motorhome is probably faster.
Our bus reaches 85 km/h. You choose to slow down.
We are in love with this way of traveling and consider our mission accomplished if you do too.
Wishing you a wonderful trip and sunshine on your way :)
