If you’ve never taken a road trip before in your life, consider this an encouragement to do so. Road trips are arguably the best way to get the most out of the places you visit - you’re free to stop wherever you please for however long you please. You don’t have to worry about rushing from one airport to another, or missing out on the scenic routes the country has to offer. Although to be honest, taking a road trip in your car can have its restrictions. A campervan road trip on the other hand doesn’t. If anything, it makes your travelling adventures a lot easier, and definitely more convenient. Not convinced? Keep reading to find out 5 reasons why you should take a motorhome road trip.

1. Freedom and Convenience

If you’re taking a road trip, the last thing you want is to be plagued by the stress of schedules and time constraints. Ideally, you’d be able to freely enjoy yourself, and go wherever you want, whenever you want. With a campervan, that’s all possible! There is no need to worry about driving to your hotel in time to check, or leaving the city early because you have nowhere to stay after you check out. Your campervan has everything you need-- a comfortable place to sleep in, and wheels to take you around. Some motorhomes even have a toilet, and/or a shower! So you can take your time, and go around wherever you please without worrying where you’ll spend the night.

You’ll have the freedom to enjoy the fantastic nature the country you’re visiting has to offer. If you’re feeling like going off road and exploring natural sites, your campervan can take you there!

2. You can squeeze in a lot of destinations

The best part about having campervan road trip is that you’re able to squeeze in as many destinations as you want. You don’t have to worry about the financial stress of booking multiple hotel, or flying from one part of the country to another. Campsites tend to be significantly cheaper than hotels, and driving from one place to another can mean you don’t have to spend money on those expensive, high season plane tickets.

The best part about driving across the country? You can see what it has to offer. With your campervan, you have the chance to park on the side of an off track road, and explore what’s in the area. If you’re feeling tired and want a little nap to regain your energy before hitting the road- that’s no problem either! Motorhomes are comfortable to sleep in; definitely more comfortable than napping in a car.

This also means you can take the ‘road less travelled’ and experience the hidden gems each country has to offer. Want to visit that little village which doesn’t have a hotel nearby? No problem, you can spend the night in your campervan!

3. Campervans are a moving home

Some campervans have literally everything you could need: a bed, a few gas rings, and even a shower and toilet! Everything you need is with you. Missing a nice home cooked meal? No problem, you can cook one yourself. Have kids who always need a bathroom break? Again, not a problem because there’s a toilet inside your vehicle.

It is worth noting that motorhomes with extended facilities like a shower and toilet can be more expensive, and you can opt for cheaper ones with just a bed and gas rings. Showers and toilets are present in nearly all campsites, however it can be convenient to have them if you’re travelling with children, or if you’re planning to travel off road.

That being said, you can camp in comfort! Sleeping in a motorhome is easily more relaxing than sleeping in a tent. But, that doesn’t mean you won’t be able to sleep in stunning views -- many campsites offer parking spots right on the beach, or in the middle of a forest so you can truly admire the serenity of nature in comfort.

4. Motorhome road trips save money

Let’s be realistic for a moment, who doesn’t want to save money? Driving a campervan can save you a lot more money than you think! Although you may be spending more money on gas, you still can save more money overall because of the following:

Campsites are cheaper than hotels
Hotels can be expensive, especially if you’re travelling with your family. That’s not to mention how hotel rates can skyrocket during high season, meaning you’ll be lucky to find accommodation for around £50. Campsites on the other hand cost roughly £25, for a place to park your motorhome, inclusive of two children and two adults.

Driving can be cheaper than flying
This is important to remember when driving long distances. If you’re travelling with your family, group tickets can cost you hundreds of pounds. Driving on the other hand, can cost less. You also can truly enjoy the route when you’re driving, something you miss out when you fly.

You can save money on food
Nearly all motorhomes have gas rings for cooking. While you cannot prepare elaborate dishes in a small space, you can always purchase groceries from local markets, and prepare your own simple meals. Hotels don’t often provide guests with access to appliances that make cooking possible, making them resort to expensive hotel meals. You don’t have to worry about this if you’re taking a motorhome on your road trip!
If you’re hoping to cook for a bigger group of people, you can always invest in pressure cookers or barbeques, so you can save money on delicious meals in the long run.

5. You can take spontaneous trips with your motorhome

Suddenly have the urge to drive to another country but don’t have time to plan a trip? That wouldn’t be a problem if you take a campervan on a road trip. There is no need to stress out about booking last minute hotels -- your motorhome is your accommodation. Campsites tend to be common to find, so chances are you’ll be able to book a last minute spot.

Decided that you want to change your travel itinerary halfway through your trip? Again, it’s not a problem! You don’t have to worry about prepaid hotel deposits, or finding transportation to your new destination(s). All you need to do is find another campsite to stay at, and find your new route. And that can all be taken care of in just a few small clicks on your laptop!

Worried you won’t be able to do this with your kids? Or worried you won’t find someone to take care of your pet while you’re gone?
