Hi,
Meet Kermit! My pride and joy. Besides Germany, Italy, and France, he also does very well on adventures to the campsites on Texel and camping spots in exotic Woerden, Zwolle, Veere, and Deventer. All in all, a fantastic addition!
This former BAM bus from 2012 was recently converted into a camper van and is still being fine-tuned (ongoing project). I installed a cozy sideboard, which immediately creates a homey setting and provides plenty of cupboard space. This also creates a lovely countertop for cooking. The portable stove was recently upgraded to the 2cook2pro Cadac version, and the portable stove is still present so you can cook outdoors as well. The sink comes from France and we transformed it ourselves! Recently, a new brass tap was installed that operates on a pressure pump, with a fresh water tank and a grey water tank in the cabinet. Thanks to the vinyl floor, the cozy green (naturally) curtains, and the mood lighting, you can create a super snug atmosphere throughout your entire holiday while, for example, cooking with your freshly tapped olive oil from the Italian farmer!
Kermit is well-maintained and receives a major service annually. For instance, he recently received new all-season front tires (Vredestein) with M&S lettering and the snowflake symbol. Additionally, he is equipped with a brand-new starter battery. He therefore drives like a dream, especially with the air conditioning (or heating) and cruise control on. You can really blast through it, but it is most economical at around 100 km/h or less. Furthermore, you can navigate via the built-in TomTom (Netherlands/Belgium) and there are beeping sounds to help you with parking. You can also connect your phone via Bluetooth to listen to your own hits and navigate that way. Additionally, a new leisure battery has been installed (100Ah from Beaut), to which the pump, the diesel heater/fan, and the built-in lights are connected. With the diesel heater, you can comfortably heat or ventilate the camper even when you are not connected to mains power. You can also charge your phone via this battery using a newly installed USB port. On the display (meter), you can then see how much power is left in the battery. Recently, Kermit has also been equipped with a handy control panel that allows you to operate all electrical devices. For safety, extra fuses have been built in, and a main switch has also been added! Finally, you can enter any European city, as it is a Euro Emission 5 bus.
Inside, there is a lovely (easy) pull-out bed built in, measuring a generous 1.70m by 2.00m, with thick, comfortable Swiss Flex mattresses. There is also room under the bed for a basket if needed. If you are traveling alone, we can remove a mattress, and you could potentially turn it into a "permanent" bed (170 by 110cm). The benches are very comfortable. Finally, we have a composting toilet for emergencies. We deliberately did not choose a porta-potti because cleaning it is not a pleasant chore, plus you always have to empty it at a designated disposal point. Since we also enjoy spending the night in the wild sometimes, we opted for this bucket toilet. We did purchase a porta-potti, so if you prefer that yourself, that is also an option.
As for the camping gear, it comes with two simple chairs and a small table. This allows you to enjoy cooking and having drinks outdoors under the sunshade, which you attach to the roof rack with two clicks and set up with just two tent poles and guy ropes!
Finally, we have built the bed in quite high, so that with a bit of creativity, 2 mountain bikes fit underneath just fine (unfortunately, we no longer have any available ourselves, so you will have to bring your own). Moreover, this leaves plenty of room for all kinds of other gear (badminton rackets, BBQs, frisbee collection, fishing rods, inflatable canoes, etc.). Incidentally, Kermit is also equipped with a tow bar, should you prefer to transport your bikes in a different way. Unfortunately, we do not have a bike rack ourselves (because it makes the van a bit longer).
If you would like to meet us and Kermit, take a test drive, or have any questions, please let us know!
Lots of love,
Melanie
