El Duderino – The tough but cozy off grid road tripper!

In the winter of 2021 we purchased this Opel Movano with double air. It was owned by General Motors Belgium until 2018 and after that it served as a 'family moving van', which means it has driven very few kilometers, only 30,000!! Now this sturdy off-grid bus from the outside with a cozy interior has been completely converted into 'El Duderino'.

The appearance alone will make you completely happy. El Duderino gives you the ultimate wanderlust feeling on your off-grid road trip, it is a real cool eye-catcher.

Thanks to its powerful diesel engine with 155 HP, it can easily keep up with traffic and mountain passes are no problem at all. On average it consumes about 1/11. The double-wheel design makes it very stable during the trip.

Interior
The 'living space' is covered with Fraké-Noir, which gives it a bohemian appearance. It has a standing height of 178cm. I (Mario) am 185cm tall and experience little inconvenience during cooking, for example.

Water
El Duderino is equipped with a 70 liter clean water tank, 65 liter waste water tank and it also has an electric 15 liter hot water boiler. This allows you to take a wonderful hot water shower in the open air.

kitchen
The kitchen has a handmade copper-plated sink with a flexible spout tap. The compressor refrigerator is a very spacious Thetford with a gross volume including freezer compartment of 84 liters. There is also a luxurious Thetford oven with a 3-burner gas stove, so you can enjoy warm baked rolls in the morning. There is plenty of storage space to store the food.

Sitting area
The camper has a seating area with a 2-compartment storage space. The passenger seat can be rotated so that you can use it with the sofa.

Bed
El Duderino has a fixed length bed (180cmx190cm) with a very comfortable cold foam mattress of 15 cm thick (the mattress was purchased in the summer of 2022).
So no hassle with setting up and taking down the bed, you can wake up peacefully with the back doors open and the warm rays of sunshine on your face. The bed has 2 sliding windows with hearing window and privacy glass.

Nautical control panel
Fully fused control panel for all 12 volt lighting and USB consumers.

Storage space under the bed
Under the bed there is storage space for the outdoor chairs, table, BBQ, etc.

Solar panels/electricity
The camper is equipped with a 330 watt solar panel, which is attached to the roof racks, allowing you to discover the most beautiful places off the grid.
The compressor refrigerator, LED lighting, tap and 4 USB connections are powered by the solar panels and the battery (280Ah). This generous energy supply means you can, in principle, camp off the grid indefinitely.
If shore power is available, 220v devices can be connected. The VictronConnect app shows the condition and charging status of the battery.

The solar inverter is from the Victron MPPT brand. The 220 volt charger is also from Victron.

Gas installation
The guest stove/oven is powered by an 8kg gas bottle. This is in a separate room with the mandatory ventilation opening.

Certification
The entire technical installation was approved and found to be excellent during the conversion to a camper.
