What Happens If My Motorhome Gets Damaged During a Hire?

January 28, 2024 in About Hiring Out and Insurance & damage

You might be worried about your motorhome getting damaged while you’ve hired it out. We completely understand and accidents can happen, but there’s no need to worry! Let’s break down what happens in case your motorhome gets damaged whilst on the road.

The importance of the GoForm

In order for any booking to take place on Goboony, the motorhome owner and the hiring party fill out the ‘GoForm’ together during the handover of the vehicle. Any existing damage is noted on the GoForm, along with the agreed-upon pick-up and drop-off times, house rules and additional agreements. Both parties need to sign the GoForm upon departure and return.

How does the process work in case of damage during the trip?

1. Inform your insurance provider

If the traveller notifies you of damage to your vehicle during the booking, it’s important you inform your insurance provider that damage has occurred while on hire, and that you will inspect the caused damage once the vehicle returns. Doing so as soon as you’ve become aware of the damage will make the claims process run smoother, as your insurance provider will already be aware of a potential insurance claim.

2. Complete the GoForm

Upon return of your vehicle, you will review the Goform with the hiring party once again. Together, you’ll record all damages that occurred during the trip. Recording the damage on the GoForm is essential, as it will serve as proof, along with photos and videos of the damage. Both parties need to sign the GoForm upon return to confirm their acceptance of the information stated. After completing and signing the GoForm with the traveller, contact your insurance provider to update them about the status of the damage.

3. Upload the GoForm and state your additional costs

Next, upload the GoForm on the booking page and select to hold the deposit within 48 hours upon the return of your vehicle. Clearly state any additional costs that have been incurred as a result of the damage. If there is more than one damage, make sure to list the costs of these damages separately. If you don’t know the costs of each repair yet, you can select the ‘costs unknown’ box. Upload all supporting documents, such as photos of the damage, an invoice for repairs and proof of payment.

If you suspect one or more of the additional costs exceed your insurance excess and/or the security deposit, you can submit a claim to your insurance provider. If you have insured your vehicle for hire via our Goboony Day Insurance, Riverside Underwriting will inform you further about the next steps. If you have opted for alternative insurance in the form of an annual self-drive hire policy with an external provider, please contact your provider directly to make a claim.

4. Await the traveller's response

Next, wait for the traveller's response. The hiring party has up to 5 days to accept or refute the stated additional costs. Once they accept the costs, the funds will be released to you.

5. Settling a dispute

If the hiring party does not accept the additional costs, communicate with them and try to reach an agreement. Ensure all communication is done via the platform so that all communication is recorded. If you find yourself in a dispute and direct communication proves unsuccessful, the Goboony Support Team can assist in the mediation process. We have experience in resolving disputes between both parties and will do our best to help you reach a solution.
