First and foremost, Tortuga is a looker! She has a hand crafted wooden interior which means that the entire living area feels really spacious, fresh and very homely. Inside, you will find a super comfy bed with a clever dinning area plus large sofa seat. There is a fully equipped kitchen with lots of cupboard space for food as well as all the pots and pans, double hob and fridge (which keep all your goodies perfectly chilled). The van is good , things such as blu tac holding latches and stopping thing’s rattling, didn’t work but it was what it was. I did feel the shattered drivers mirror should have been replaced as it’s a quick off the shelf item and the pre video supplied by Derek on van damage suggested it’s been previously smashed. Water leaking under the sink was not difficult to work around. Just don’t put anything in the space under the sink. There was Sufficient interior lighting but not all was working. Again, did I expect it to work , yes, could I cope with it not working , yes. Derek was helpful and did communicate well over what’s app prior to pick up, the van had all instructions documented well and also video supplied so you were well prepared to enjoy the van and our adventure. We stopped for a comfort break on route home which I advised Derek I’d be 1 hour late which was at £12.50 per hour. No problem my side with that, however we were caught in traffic in Glasgow so ran over by 15mins and Derek added each minute on to the charge. Honestly it felt like being on a taxi meter and it was very impersonal, anyway its real life and my review is the full experience expressed with honesty for others. On this note the diesel heater which is very efficient and warms the van well to a cosy temp quickly. But fill it before returning the van . We had it on for approx 1 hour over the 3 days , there was no container to refill in the van and it is charged at empty to full cost no matter how little or much you use. We would have used 250mls of diesel at an absolute max. Adblu We did 430miles , all within the set pre contract agreement, charge of £15 cash for adblu another additional additional cost which could be inclusive. £15 is small money but why charge for what’s not used and not pre contract agreement. Again your charged empty to full no matter how little you use. All Seems like optimum cash mark up opportunity.
Is the van comfortable, reliable easy to drive and a nice experience, overall with its quirks , very much so. Plug your phone in use google maps and off you go with a cosy easily managed van to enjoy your adventure. To me a little gloss was lost when I realised the tactics of earning additional revenue as much as it was all small cash hand in to hand at the end it felt quite impersonal and less friendly. Would i recommend to my friends and family this particular van ? The experience was what I needed and so gorgeous seeing Mull and Iona where we traveled, so big yes . The drilling down to the minute costs and process of the penny counting hand back. I’m afraid not for my friends and family as it really did end our adventure on a dull note.
This was a great introduction to the pleasures of the campervan. Freedom to go where you want. Can't wait to try it again.

Tortuga was a great van and perfect for a trip around the NC500! We got really snowy, cold weather, but it was warm in the van and it drove well on the icy roads. Plenty of room inside, super cosy and made our trip even better. Derek was also really nice and helpful! Highly recommend :)

We love it. It met our expectations 100%. We had all the stuff we needed during out road trip around the Isle of Mull and Fort Williams. I’d rent tortuga if I plan a new trip around Scotland without doubt.

Spent a week doing the NC500 in Tortuga. Lovely campervan, runs well and very comfortable for 2 and a medium/large sized dog.
Owners very accommodating and went above and beyond with a couple of requests that we needed which made the trip very special.

We had a wonderful weekend in Scotland and the weather was very kind to us. On the Friday night we made our way to Luss Caravan and Camping site as we weren't sure what to expect and how everything worked, so we chose a site with plenty of facilities in case we couldn't work things out. I reality the van had everything we needed; solar power for the night time power, diesel heater, a gas boiler and a seperate gas cooker. Next night was very different; we camped on a remote farm on the Isle of Mull with no facilities - and used the van as our base for walking and exploring a beautiful beach. This is where the van came into its own and being self-sufficient was exactly what we wanted. Our last night we utilised a quiet parking area in Crianlarich after using various blogs ans websites to find free camping.
We really liked the van but we could have been better organised and now know more about van life. The only thing we may look for in future would be a van where the front space could be used more. The front seats in Tortuga are fixed and rotating seats would have give us even more space, but this was really a minor issue as we made good use of the space we had.
We had great communication with Derek via Goboony and then WhatsApp afterwards to let each other know about arrival times etc. The hand over was really easy and relaxed and both Derek and Araceli were really lovely and answered all our daft first timer questions.

The van was great - it had everything you'd need for a camping trip, including all cooking essentials and a couple of camping chairs, and it was also very nice to drive.
