The Big Green Van (BGV) is a fabulous, funky, hand built campervan with distinctive graffiti artwork. It is loaded with superior quality fixtures, fittings, content and kit - to ensure you have a superior van-life experience. Your holiday & journey around Scotland & the UK will be comfortable, stylish and memorable.
The BGV is set up to be fully versatile - wherever you choose to take it. Go #wildcamping and be fully off grid for days on end, or enjoy campsites with an electric hook-up. Our video guides easily explain all features.
The BGV is really easy and fun to drive. It has a reversing camera. As an ‘XLWB’ it is tall & spacious, accommodating up to 3 humans - plus your beloved dog.
The BGV’s bespoke interior is stylish & functional, containing:
- Swivel-type front passengers seat (>2 people).
- Up to 2 table spaces - for eating indoors and/or those who want try #RemoteWork whilst on the move and be at their laptop...
- Multiple seating areas, so you can relax on and off the double bed!
- A well equipped kitchen & generous cooking area with: coolbox, double ring gas hob, sink, and complimentary cooking supplies & ‘everyday essentials’.
- Plenty of interior storage options including a large ‘garage’ - for all your multi-adventure kit, bikes, or even a dog kennel and any of the optional camping extras we provide.
- A portable cassette toilet.
On any wet-weather days, you’ll feel cosy not cramped. You’ll get warm quickly with the diesel heater, which means you can also dry out your clothes if they get wet.
The van sleeps 3 people. 3 beds are fixed - so there's no messing every day pulling out or putting the bed away. You’ll sleep on deep memory foam mattresses.
The double bed is surrounded by 3 cute portholes - always good for surprise sunrises or star-gazing.
There are 2 single bed options which suit either tall humans or little people. These are shown in the photos. There is a fixed single bed located slightly under the double bed - good for kids. Alternatively, tall or adult people will probably prefer our deluxe single air-mattress, put on the floor of the corridor. (Mattress size 183 x 64 cm x 10cm deep).
Enjoy watching the weather & scenery from the BGV’s many windows. Thermal blinds & darkened windows provide you with privacy day & night.

There's no shower in the van deliberately. It takes up useful space. It's possible to stay overnight in a campsite - or visit one, and use better washing facilities; or have a 'strip wash' in the van.
There’s a range of extra add-ons available - but if it’s not on the list, let us know, and we might be able to source it especially for you and your #roadtrip.

The BGV is a stunning van inside and out, and we want it to stay that way. Between each hire, the van has a full professional valet and fumigation, using eco-chemicals. This ensures there is no trace of any humans or animals that come before you. You will have peace of mind knowing you will have a spotless, fresh smelling, 5-star #vanlife experience.
*The Big Green Van comes with fully comprehensive insurance and breakdown assistance, but there are a few criteria that we need to meet for the insurers:
- You are over 25 years of age and hold a full UK, EU, NZ, AU licence
- You have a minimum of 2 years driving experience.
- You have no more than 6 points on your licence.
- If you hold a licence from any other country, you must have a minimum of 2 weeks UK driving experience. There is an additional excess on the policy for these licences, and we will alter your deposit to reflect this.
Pick up time for the BGV is between 7:30AM and 10:00AM. Return time is before 10:00AM. We ask that you factor this into your travel planning.
Pick up & Drop off is in Portobello - Edinburgh's seaside neighbourhood. Why is this best for you?

- Easy to drive away from here to the bypass, on big wide roads - perfect for picking up your confidence levels when starting out in a bigger vehicle

- Fast for airport transfers - only 45 minutes away
- Great part of the city - for starting / ending your holiday. Plenty of places for food, drink, a walk by the sea, and to get your shopping in.
We trust that hiring the Big Green Van will fulfil your desires for travel and adventure, in comfort and style. The only 'difficulties' you'll have will be:
- trying to fit in all the things you'll want to do in this little-but-big country called Scotland (take an extra day or two - you wont regret it)
- not wanting to give her back to us at the end of your trip!
