Description

I am renting out Marshmallow my Volkswagen campervan for people looking for adventure in Scotland. It is a small log wood camper on wheels with plenty of character and extremely easy to drive.

This Volkswagen lt28 is the (nearly) identical twin of Mellow Yellow (also on this site). Its living quarters are compact but highly organised so everything is within hand reach.

Cooking
There is a little two pit gas stove and a grill underneath, pots and pans in the overhead cupboard and we generally keep condiments that guests leave behind in there as well. That way you probably won't have to buy sugar, olive oil, mayo and the like. The cool box under the bed keeps your food cool with ice packs. Every supermarket sells these for £1/kg and they do the job 24 hrs.

Sleeping
There’s a fixed double bed, which runs lengthwise across the van, creating a long stretched bed (so the taller persons can stretch their legs). Very comfortable sleeper, and you can open the skylight to regulate the air.

Bike rack/shower
We have a bike rack in case you need it. There is also a shower that can be used outside the camper and which is powered by a 5m 12v pump which you submerge in the water tank.

Driving
The van handles like a dream and there is a stereo radio player/cd player as well as an aux facility so you can play your own music via the car speakers. Bring your own aux cable to plug in the 3mm jack. There are various USB ports for charging your devices powered by a separate leisure battery which itself is powered by driving the camper.

Winter camping
Winter camping in Marshmallow can be done (my campers were booked up during the last two winters and guests came back raving) as it's well-insulated. The reality of winter road tripping is that at night you won't be cold in the bed. There is a tent heater too, but you'd be best off huddling around a warm fire in a pub (think apres ski) during the evenings and then diving straight into bed with a hot water bottle and a woolly hat when you are ready to sleep.

Campsites
For washing and generally keeping in touch with civilization, you could hit a campsite now and then - I have a list of the ones in the highlands that stay open in winter so just ask me and I'll forward it.

Wildcamping
Wildcamping (staying on the roadside overnight) is generally tolerated in Scotland. It's the Land of the Free after all. Most people do it without any problem, so long as you don't pitch up right on the doorstep of a campsite and keep the noise down.

The camper is not the newest, but for us it was just fine. We had a wonderful time. On campsites and two "wild spots" by the river. Positive about the camper is the cosy seat with table inside and the camper drives really easy, because it is not so big like some campers. Angelique is a very friendly woman. No fuzz about rules etc. We could perfectly make appointments with her when we picked up the camper and delivered it. Next time we're in Scotland we certainly contact Angelique for a camper !
