In this blog we will give you our Goboony insight into our top 5 Christmas markets in Germany. Because what better way to get into the festivities than going to a real German Christmas market? Drive your camper to a German city and park him at the suggested camper. Add your credit to hot chocolate, glühwein and bratwurst or find the most beautiful decorations and baubles for your Christmas tree!

1. Düsseldorf Christmas Market

The Düsseldorf Christmas Market is one of the biggest and best Christmas markets in Germany. With over 250 different stalls spread over six squares, there is something for everyone. It is not for nothing that this Christmas market is the most popular among the Dutch. Each square has its own character and is therefore very different. On the Market place, for example, the old crafts are central, the market on the Heinrich Heine plaza is called the English market, and the Stadtbruckhen calls the asterisk market through the beautiful lighting. These six different styles in 1 city, combined with the cozy pubs and restaurants in the area are what make the Christmas market in Düsseldorf so special. Our top tip: Take a look at the ice rink on the Gustaf Grudgens square, or take your children to the indoor puppet theater!

Düsseldorf Christmas Market runs from the 16th of November to the 30th of December 2017. 
The markets are open daily from 11:00 to 20:00 and on Fridays and Saturdays you can even enjoy the cosiness until 21:00.

2. Berlin Christmas Market

Popping up all over the capital for the season, you will typically find around 60 Christmas markets. Most of them can be found within central Berlin. One such example is the Christmas market at the Berlin Sony Center at Potsdam Place. The roof of the futuristic center is beautifully lit. Around the Center you will find all kinds of fun stalls with delicious bratwurst and glühwein. There is even a ski slope where you can go tubing! Another big Christmas market in Berlin is the WeihnachtsZauber at the Gendarmenmarkt. Ultimately, you will be able to get what you want out of a Christmas Market when visiting Berlin, you really are spoilt for choice! Because of the sheer number of places, you can spend a few days here and try and fit in as many as you can. Furthermore, the Christmas markets manage to have both an international feel to them whilst still remaining quintessentially German. This makes finding whatever you want far more possible, be it German or from further afield.

The Christmas market at the Gendarmenmarkt  is open daily from 11:00 to 22:00. The other Christmas markets are open for slightly longer on Fridays and Saturdays, often until 22.30.

3. Cologne Christmas Market

The market in Cologne has so much worth experiencing. Something that makes it really special is the view, as you can see the impressive Dom in the background. In addition to this, all squares have their own individual theme. " The market next to the Dom is characterized by the huge Christmas tree in the middle of the square. The tree is 25 meters high and is packed with 70 thousand LED lights. The Old Market has a great, whimsical fairytale theme, which makes it a great place to go for the children. Furthermore, the Old Market has its own ice rink which adds that extra bit of christmas magic. Perhaps the most special market is the Gay Market in the Schafenstraße. This market is small, cozy and very welcoming to everyone. Here you will find not only stews of Glühwein but you can also drink nice cocktails. The Christmas market in Cologne takes place from 27 November to 23 December. The market is open daily from 11:00 until 21:00 During weekdays and from 10:00 to 22:00 on Saturdays and Sundays

4. Heidelberg Christmas Market

Heidelberg  is not often given the credit it deserves when it comes to its Christmas Markets. However, this university city really is a great place to visit over the Christmas break. Because Heidelberg is a university city, there are many young people, which certainly contributes to the vibrancy and fun atmosphere at the city’s Christmas market. In total there are more than 150 stalls in addition to small shops in the pleasantly quaint streets. What makes even more cozy is that the city is surrounded by the old wall dating back hundreds of years. Another highly recommended aspect of visiting Heidelberg is to visit the castle. Heidelberg Castle was built during the renaissance, and is situated partway up the Königstuhl hillside, giving it a stunning view down to the . During the Christmas season the lock is beautifully lit and Christmas music is played.

The Christmas market takes place from November 27 until December 22 and is from 10:00 to 21:00 every day. On Saturday the market will take place until 22:00.
